Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma Awareness Month

Tuesday at the Lee County Commissions’ chamber, the county adopted a resolution recognizing September 2008 as Leukemia and Lymphoma, Awareness month.

It is important to recognize the work that the Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma Society is doing in favor of those who suffer this horrible illness either through research where scientists affiliated with the organization are always looking to find a cure and financially providing monetary support those in need of treatment.

I came across the society one day that I was looking to volunteer my time in a non profit organization; through their corporate website I found something that caught my attention that will fulfill my current two desires volunteering time and exercising.

I was able to do that joining Team in Training. The Society’s Team In Training (TNT) is the world’s largest endurance sports training program, providing coaching and support for people to cross the finish line at marathons, half marathons, triathlons and 100-mile cycling events. Over 360,000 participants have raised more than $850 million for lifesaving cancer research and to help blood cancer patients live longer, better lives.

I will be joining others from Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers and Sarasota to compete in a marathon and help with fundraiser events. Our group was present at the cutting ribbon ceremony of Trailhead Neighborhood Park in Fort Myers.
